Bookkeeping & Cash Flow for Service Businesses

Clean books. And a clear view of the cash coming.

Clearline Financial keeps your QuickBooks current, accurate, and actually useful — then puts a real forecast behind it, so you stop finding out about a cash crunch the week it arrives.

Email Me About Your Books Goes straight to me. I read and answer every one.

Most service businesses run on gut instinct because their numbers are a mess.

Sound familiar?

Books months behind

Your bookkeeping is always catching up, never current. By the time you see the numbers, the moment has passed.

Reports you don't use

You get financial statements, but nobody explains what they mean or what to do with them.

Pricing by feel

You set your prices once and never revisited them. You might be leaving 10–20% on the table and you'd never know.

Cash flow surprises

Every slow season feels like a crisis because nobody is forecasting. You're reacting instead of planning.

Start where you are. Add what you need.

If your books are behind, we clean them up first. If they're current, we keep them that way. When you're ready to look forward instead of backward, we add the cash flow work.

What it's actually like to hand over a messy QuickBooks.

Most people put this off because they're embarrassed by the state of the file. I've never opened one that surprised me. Here's exactly how it goes.

1

Day 1 · 15 minutes of your time

You send me access

You add me to your QuickBooks Online as an accountant user and point me at your bank and card accounts. That's the whole lift on your end. No spreadsheets to fill out, no shoebox of receipts to organize first.

2

Week 1

I find out what's actually broken

I go account by account: what's reconciled and what isn't, where the balances stopped matching the bank, what got dumped into Uncategorized Expense, whether old invoices and bills are still sitting open. You get a written diagnostic — how far back the problems go, what it will take to fix, and a firm price before any real work starts.

3

Weeks 2–3

I do the work

Every account gets reconciled to the statement. Transactions get categorized the way your business actually operates, not the way the software guessed. Duplicates come out, missing entries go in, and the chart of accounts gets rebuilt so your P&L reads like your business instead of a generic template.

4

One call, about an hour

We go through it together

I walk you through the corrected financials and what changed. Sometimes the news is good — you were more profitable than you thought. Sometimes a job or a service line has been losing money for a year. Either way, you'll leave knowing which numbers to trust and what they're telling you.

5

From there

You have a real starting point

Clean books, tied to the bank, ready for your CPA. From here you can take the file back and run it yourself, or hand me the monthly close so it never gets to this point again. There's no obligation to continue — the cleanup stands on its own.

Finance professional, not just a bookkeeper.

Brett

I'm Brett — a finance leader with 13+ years building the financial systems that Fortune 500, Inc. 5000, and PE-backed companies rely on to make decisions. Clearline is based in Cincinnati.

Forecasting, modeling, pricing strategy, cash flow — I've built and run all of it at scale.

Now I'm bringing that same rigor to service businesses that have outgrown basic bookkeeping but aren't ready to hire a full-time CFO. You deserve the same financial clarity that billion-dollar companies have — without the billion-dollar price tag.

I also publish Forecasting Performance, a finance newsletter read by 8,000+ professionals nationwide. Most bookkeepers do your books. I do your books and tell you what they mean — so every decision you make is backed by real numbers, not guesswork.

Frequently asked.

There isn't one. Two months behind and three years behind are the same kind of problem, just different amounts of work — and the price reflects that. If the bank data is available, the books can be rebuilt.

Not necessarily. If you're happy with your current bookkeeper, we can work alongside them — reviewing their work and adding the cash flow and forecasting layer on top. If your books need a fresh start, we can take that over too.

Service businesses — HVAC and trades companies, law firms, medical and dental practices, marketing agencies, property management, cleaning services, and other professional service firms. If you run a service business and want better financial visibility, we're a good fit.

Cincinnati is home and where I prefer to work — being able to sit across the table from you matters. But the work itself is done in QuickBooks Online, so distance isn't a barrier if we're a good fit.

Your CPA looks backward — they file your taxes and make sure you're compliant. I look forward — keeping your books current, forecasting your cash, and helping you make decisions in real time. It also makes your CPA's job easier, because they get clean, organized data instead of a reconstruction project.

No. Monthly plans are month-to-month with a 30-day cancellation notice. I earn your business every month. The cleanup is a one-time project with a fixed price — it doesn't commit you to anything ongoing.

QuickBooks Online, exclusively. If you're already on it, I'll work within your existing setup. If you're not, I'll help you get there.

Tell me what's going on with your books.

One email. Tell me what you do, how far behind you are, and what you're trying to fix. I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
